Types of Scholarships Available for Indian Students to Study in the UK

The UK offers a large number of scholarships to study in UK, especially for Ph.D. students. There are also several undergraduate scholarships available to international students who wish to study in the UK. There are three types of international student scholarships in the UK.

  • B.Country-specific Scholarship
  • C. University Scholarship
A. Global Scholarships – These scholarships are highly modest and have strict admissibility criteria.

1.Chevening Scholarship- Chevening Scholarship Study Level - Masters.Eligible Countries - 144 countries. Around 700 scholarships are awarded annually.Application Deadline: August-October/November (usually).

2.Commonwealth Scholarships- Degree level: Master's degree and Ph.D. (only for students from St. Helena and Seychelles).Eligible Countries: 62 Nation Community.Eligibility Criteria: Commonwealth Citizen, Refugee or UK Protected Individual and at least a 2:1 degree with honors.Open application period: August before the start of studies.Amount - Mainly covers tuition fees, monthly living expenses, and travel to and from the UK.

3.Saltire Scholarship- Degree level: Masters.Eligible Countries: Canada, Pakistan, USA, India, and China.Eligibility Criteria: Students must be offered at a Scottish university for a Masters in Science, Technology, Creative Industries, Health Sciences, and Medicine, or Renewable and Clean Energy.Applications are possible: October to May.Amount -50 scholarships to study in the UK worth $10,440.

B. Country Specific Scholarships to Study in the UK

1. Global Studies Award - British Council, Research Portal, and ISIC have jointly initiated the £10,000 Global Studies Award to encourage Indian students to study and develop cross-cultural understanding in the UK. This scholarship is open to two international students twice a year.

2. Great British Council Scholarships for Indian Students to Study in the UK - In collaboration with 40 UK universities, 198 scholarships have been given with a total budget of £2.6 million per academic year. These scholarships cover roughly 29 undergraduate degrees and 169 postgraduate degrees in arts, management, engineering, science, and law degrees.

3. Dr. Manmohan Singh Scholarship - This scholarship is awarded by St. John's College in honor of Dr. Manmohan Singh (Former Prime Minister, India) launched. It is awarded to academically outstanding Indian students who wish to achieve a Ph.D. in fields such as science and technology, economics, and social sciences at St. John's College and the University of Cambridge. Applications in aerospace engineering and energy research have the highest priority.

4. Goa Education Trust Scholarships - This foundation helps Goa students seek study abroad opportunities. Eligible students receive scholarships and research grants from the university. The scholarship covers full or half tuition fees for the course.

5. Charles Wallace India Trust Scholarships – provides 10 scholarships annually to international students, including accommodation, tuition, and living costs in the UK, along with a contribution to international rates.

6. Inlaks Shivdasani Scholarship - This foundation emphasizes giving grants, scholarships, and awards in various fields to excellent eligible bachelors to qualify them to progress their professional, artistic, academic, and cultural skills overseas and abroad.

7. Felix Scholarship - This scholarship is intended for outstanding students under the age of 30 from underprivileged backgrounds. The Felix Trust awards a max of 6 scholarships per year for scholars to get their postgraduate degrees at the University of Reading & School of Oriental, University of Oxford, and African Studies.

UK University Scholarships to Study in the UK

1. University of Westminster - The University of Westminster offers many scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students.
2. Coventry University – This University finances 1 million euros annually in scholarships for international scholars pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees from the university. Coventry University Scholarships are valued at up to £1,500.
3. Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford University - Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford University is the most prestigious and oldest scholarship. Every year 5 awards are given to Indian students who are eligible for higher education for their outstanding intellect, headship, and willpower. The scholarship includes full tuition fees, health insurance, and economy-class airfare to your home country.
4. Queen Mary University - Queen Mary offers a variety of scholarships for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students. even. The University has invested more than £25 million to support international students.
5. Gates of Cambridge Scholarship – Any outstanding candidate from any country pursuing a full-time postgraduate degree from the University of Cambridge can apply for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship. The scholarship covers full tuition fees plus a small amount of additional funding.
6. University of Sussex Chancellor's International Scholarships - These are merit-based scholarships offered to prospective international students wishing to undertake a postgraduate course at the University of Sussex. The scholarship includes 50% tuition fees and is offered for almost all PG programs.
7. University of Hertfordshire - This University offers merit-based scholarships to eligible postgraduate and undergraduate students. International students do not have to enroll in a formal application process.
8. The UAL Vice-Chancellor's International Postgraduate Scholarship - This scholarship annually supports 10 students from low socioeconomic backgrounds pursuing a full-time Master's degree from the University of the Arts, London. The total amount of the scholarship is £25,000.
9. University of Bristol International Office Scholarships – Offers 5 scholarships/year to students pursuing their undergraduate degree. Each student is rewarded with £8,500 in tuition and living expenses for one academic year.
10. International Ambassador Scholarships at the University of West London - Offers 50 scholarships worth £5,000 to academically gifted students who wish to pursue a full-time Bachelor's program at the university.
11. University of Nottingham Solution Development Scholarships – Offers 105 scholarships/year for international students to complete a Masters's degree from the university. Of these, 30 scholarships offer a 100% tuition waiver and 75 scholarships offer a 50% tuition waiver.
