Part-time Jobs in Ireland for International Students – Instructions and Guidelines

There are some rules to follow while working part time in Ireland for students. When it comes to part-time work in Ireland for international students, those who have enrolled in a program of one year or more do not need a specific work permit to get this job in the country. Student visas issued are divided into two categories, namely Stamp 2A (prohibited from seeking part-time work) and Stamp 2 (allowed to seek part-time work). The latter is only allowed to work 40 hours a week in June, July, August, and September and during the holiday period from December 15 to January 15. For the remainder of the year, these international students can only work 20 hours per week on this visa.

Here are some of the admission criteria for international students looking for Part Time Jobs in Ireland:

  • Students must be registered with the GNIB (National Guard Immigration Bureau).
  • You must be enrolled in a program recognized by the Ministry of Education and Skills.
  • Students must have attended a regular undergraduate or higher education program.
  • You must commit to 15 hours of classes per day.
  • You must take classes between 8:00 and 18:00 every week during the school year for a minimum of 25 weeks.
  • You must be enrolled in the course for at least one year.
  • International students who meet the above criteria must also apply for their PPS or personnel number for the public sector. Employers can only send payments to employees with a PPS number.
  • You must also have a bank account in Ireland as all payments can only be made to an Irish bank account.
  • Foreign students are also taxed in Ireland along with tax requirements and employment regulations.

Types of Part Time Jobs in Ireland and minimum wages

Ireland has several sectors of part time work and opportunities for interested applicants and they are entitled to the Irish minimum wage of €9.80 per hour. Employers may take you to work for an initial trial period before securing a suitable job. Here are some important options in this regard:

Cafe/Restaurant/Bar

It is the main employer in Ireland providing the maximum part-time job opportunities for international students. You need to search for job openings and then submit a resume in the same way. There are several jobs available, including washing dishes, fine dining, and waiting tables. Applicants must have proper social and communication skills and at the same time be able to work in an environment where professionalism is an important aspect. These part-time jobs usually work in shifts and students can easily choose a time that will not interfere with their course or academic program.

Entertainment and other events

These events, including music festivals, concerts, and theatrical performances, are a great choice for those seeking part-time work while studying in the country. Available positions typically include behind-the-scenes crew, stage crew, safety officer, equipment manager, staff, and more. This is a one-time job that can be accomplished through word of mouth and networks.

Customer Service or Call Center

Applicants may also try to find a part-time position in a customer service area or call center. This industry is a great choice for those looking for part time work. Those with previous experience in the industry are preferred over freshmen, although anyone can submit a resume and will also be hired based on the available positions. Excellent language, communication, and social skills are prerequisites for working in this field.

Training

Personal training is another part-time option for international students. You can contact your university and there may be programs that allow students to teach others part-time after or before classes. You should have sufficient knowledge of your chosen topic, with some teaching/teaching in the mainstream always going to help you.

Cleaning

Industrial cleaning companies are always looking for temporary or part-time workers to join their crews. The work involved heavy physical labor and working in a difficult environment. Anyone looking for a part time job in this industry should know that it is very demanding. Salaries are usually higher than the average hourly minimum wage of €9.80, depending on the type of work offered.
